About the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology

The American Dental Board of Anesthesiology examines and certifies dentists who complete an accredited program of anesthesiology training in the United States or Canada. Dentists may apply for Board Certification through the ADBA which requires ongoing and continual post-graduate education for maintenance.

The mission of the ADBA is to elevate the standards and advance the art and science of anesthesiology in dentistry, thereby optimizing patient care.

It was founded to ensure that all dentists who have completed approved dental anesthesiology residency programs have attained, and will maintain, the highest possible level of knowledge and skill in the spectrum of anesthesiology care for dentistry. Comprehensive written and oral examinations must be successfully completed for the dentist anesthesiologist to be designated a Diplomate.

All Diplomates are required to have completed twenty-four months or more of formal residency training in anesthesiology accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation or a provincial or national accrediting body deemed equivalent by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology.

The American Dental Board of Anesthesiology represents the most highly trained and experienced anesthesia-provider dentists in the profession.
